On March 21, 2025, an Amherst County Jury found Dante Lorenzo Davis guilty of two counts of possession with intent to distribute Schedule I or II drugs, 3rd or subsequent offense, from an incident that occurred on May 22, 2024. Amherst Commonwealth's Attorney W. Lyle Carver prosecuted the case.
These offenses occurred at the Red Roof Inn in Madison Heights when the Amherst Sheriff's Office received a call about a possible violation of a protective order. Investigator Derek Tyree, along with K-9 handler Sgt. Shores, Deputy Mike Arthur, and Sgt. Sergio Sanchez, investigated. During the course of the investigation, a large quantity of both methamphetamine and cocaine were discovered, along with a digital scale, baggies, a cutting agent, a mixing container, other indicia of illegal narcotics distribution, and more than $7,000 worth of cash, all of which Investigator Tyree testified was consistent with the intent to distribute drugs. In addition, Investigator Tyree testified that the street value of the drugs would be more than $5,000.
Amherst Commonwealth's Attorney W. Lyle Carver tried the case to a jury of the Defendant's peers and secured a conviction on both counts. Possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule I or II substance, 3rd or subsequent offense, carries an enhanced punishment as each offense carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years incarceration. The maximum penalty on each charge is up to 40 years incarceration. The Defendant will be sentenced by the Amherst Circuit Court after a pre-sentence investigation has been completed. His sentencing date has not been set.
