On July 17, 2020, the Central Virginia Drug and Gang Task Force executed a search warrant on the residence of Landon Ryan Mccormick.  While conducting the search of his home in Madison Heights, the TF agents seized an AR-15 and methamphetamine.  McCormick was arrested and held with no bond.  On July 30, 2020, after being denied bond by the Amherst County General District Court, McCormick waived his right to a preliminary hearing and the cases were certified to the grand jury.  Continuances ensued in the Amherst County Circuit Court due to the pandemic and the defendant retaining a new attorney.

On May 28, 2021, the defendant pled guilty to possession of a firearm as a violent felon, distribution of a schedule I/II drug, and distribution of over 10 grams of methamphetamine.  McCormick was sentenced to a mandatory 5-year term for possession of a firearm as a violent felon, a mandatory 5-year term for distribution of over 10 grams of methamphetamine, and a 5-year term for the distribution of a schedule I/II drug, for a total of 15 years of active incarceration.  The defendant was ordered to be on supervised probation for 5 years upon his release and good behavior for 40 years.

A separate civil forfeiture action was filed in this case and $10,113.00 was forfeited to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
