The Victim Witness Assistant is an hourly, part-time (approximately 12 hours a week) position and does not offer benefits. The Victim Witness Assistant would share space with the Director and Advocate of the Program as well as members of the Amherst County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and would report directly to the Director of the Victim Witness Program.
The main responsibility of this position is to assist victims with obtaining and extending protective orders in both Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court and General District Court. This will include assisting the victim with the paperwork, explaining the process and accompanying the victim to the court hearings.
When not assisting with protective orders, the Victim Witness Assistant will help with data entry in the Victim Services Data Collection System (VSDCS), offer assistance in court for cases requiring additional staff and other duties as needed.
This position is currently a temporary, grant-funded position only guaranteed through June 30, 2025. There is the possibility this could become a permanent position at a future date dependent on funding.
